This hasn't been a lucky year for the Khans. Salman Khan's Race 3, Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan and now Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, have all been slammed by the critics as well as the audience alike.
Zero hit the screens on December 21. After a rather underwhelming opening weekend, the collections of the film continued to dip further and even Christmas was not so merry for Zero. The film has rather low collections at the end of its first week.
According to early estimates, Zero earned around Rs 4 crore on Thursday, bringing its total collection so far to around Rs 91.32 crore approx.
Day 1 - Friday (December 21) - Rs 20.14 crore
Day 2 - Saturday (December 22) - Rs 18.22 crore
Day 3 - Sunday (December 23) - Rs 20.71 crore
Day 4 - Monday (December 24) - Rs 9.50 crore
Day 5 - Tuesday (December 25) - Rs 12.75 crore
Day 6 - Wednesday (December 26) - Rs 6 crore (approx)
Day 7- Thursday (December 27)- Rs 4 crore approx
Approximate seven-day box-office collection of Zero: Rs 91.32 crore
Zero, directed by Aanand L Rai, is a complicated love triangle between a vertically challenged man (Shah Rukh Khan), a scientist suffering from cerebral palsy (Anushka Sharma) and an actress battling alcoholism after a heartbreak (Katrina Kaif).
Even the numerous special appearances by Sridevi, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Kajol and others have not managed to save the film at the box office.
Ranveer Singh's Simmba will be hitting the screens today, and it will be a miracle if Zero manages to hold ground. In fact, Zero has lost to Kannada film KGF Chapter 1 at the box office.
Talking about his film beating Zero, Kannada star Yash told a website, "I won't say that doing better than a Shah Rukh Khan film is something I aspire to do. Ideally, I would want both the films to do well. But yes, the way north Indian audiences have responded has surprised all of us in the KGF team. In north India, they don't know who I am, yet they are clapping and cheering at my entry."
